Physiotherapy & ShockWave Doetinchem

We are here for you...!

Welcome to Physiotherapy & ShockWave Doetinchem! The physiotherapy practice specialized in the treatment of chronic pain complaints. For example, you can think of RSI complaints (now called CANS). These types of complaints require a special approach in which, in addition to a treatment plan, we discuss together with the patient how the recurrence of these types of problems can be prevented in the future.

At Physiotherapy Doetinchem we work with the latest techniques and treatment methods, including Ultrasound, Laser and ESWT (Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy). With ESWT ShockWave, many chronic pain complaints that were previously impossible or difficult to treat can now be resolved effectively and in a short time.

Ultrasound can be used to detect and/or rule out abnormalities in posture and movement, allowing the patient to receive more targeted treatment or be referred to the right doctor or paramedic. This allows the entire rehabilitation process to proceed faster and therefore much more efficiently.

New location

Our new practice at Gezellenlaan 21 in Doetinchem opened on June 2, 2020. You can now also park for free in front of the door!

Feyk Hogenbirk

Feyk Hogenbirk is your practitioner at Physiotherapy & ShockWave Doetinchem. He specializes in Manual Therapy, Sports Physiotherapy, Jaw Physiotherapy and Ultrasound. Since 2007, Hogenbirk has focused on High-Energy Extracorporeal ShockWave Therapy (ESWT): a focused, specialist form of ShockWave therapy. In combination with Musculo Skeletal Ultrasound (MSU), or ultrasound diagnostics, Hogenbirk is able to achieve quick results in short treatment processes.
Hogenbirk is registered in the BIG register and the Central Physiotherapy Quality Register (CKR). He is also a member of the Royal Dutch Society for Physiotherapy (KNGF) and the Dutch Association for Musculoskeletal ShockWave Therapy (NVMST).

Career

In 1982, Feyke Hogenbirk set up his first private practice, at the time the Center for Physiotherapy and Manual Therapy Doetinchem. There he was able to implement his ambitious ideas to improve physiotherapy, which he did not have the opportunity to do as an employee. Five physiotherapists worked with him in this center before Hogenbirk sold the practice in 2000 and also started focusing on Cosmetic Laser treatments.

Eight years later, Hogenbirk shifted his focus back to physiotherapy, with the founding of Physiotherapy & ShockWave Doetinchem. Here he introduced High-Energy ShockWave therapy, which remains relatively unknown in the Netherlands to this day. After all, this form of shock wave therapy requires specialist knowledge and superior, but expensive equipment.

This investment is paying off, now that Hogenbirk can solve (pain) complaints precisely and efficiently. He does this by combining ShockWave therapy with ultrasound diagnostics. Ultrasound images give him a better view of the problems before targeted treatment with the high-energy ESWT. In addition, Hogenbirk pays a lot of attention to explaining and coordinating with patients, so that they know what they can expect from him.

Training and courses

In 1978, Feyke Hogenbirk started his training as a physiotherapist at the Academy for Physiotherapy Amsterdam. After obtaining his diploma there in 1981, he continued his studies between 1982 and 1985 with a training in Manual Therapy at the Maitland Institute in Enschede.

Hogenbirk was already working as director and practitioner in his own practice, the Center for Physiotherapy and Manual Therapy Doetinchem, but over the years he continued to expand his range of treatment options in breadth and depth. He specialized in sports physiotherapy and jaw physiotherapy for Craniov Mandibular Dysfunctions (CMD) and completed various medical training courses in German, Australian, British and American practices.

Even after Hogenbirk set up Physiotherapy & ShockWave Doetinchem in 2008, he completed many training courses, such as the Golf Physiotherapist and Golf Physio Trainer courses, Myofascial Trigger Points, Manual Trigger Point Therapy, Physiotherapy for Low Back Pain and Lower Limb Tendinopathy.

Naturally, Hogenbirk also followed the necessary training in his current specializations, including the Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSU) course. To use the ShockWave equipment, he took courses with various manufacturers and shadowed a fellow physiotherapist from Groningen, who also applied this form of therapy in his practice. Hogenbirk also previously completed the Direct Access Physiotherapy course, which allows him to receive patients better without the intervention of a doctor and they can go directly to his practice.
